Sound Art: Paint Sound!

Soundart is...
Is a combination of Sound Healing and Art Therapy. The image above is my image for soundart and by looking at what the image suggests we can begin to build up an understanding of what soundart is because it is very fluid and open. The centre is a bit like a snail's shell and also like the pattern in some fossils. It is also reminisent of the solar system with planets orbiting the sun. The leaf looks like it belongs to an Oak Tree and it's central veins feature quite strongly. This may indicate the way that nourishment is distributed within the body - or indeed the soul. The snail's shell may also be a shell from the sea and so connotations to do with the sea and water emerge. Water can represent the unconscious, the feminine principle, surrender, receptivity and passivity. A shell may also hint at a sense of hiding away. The small round things remind me of stones and how they are placed is like shoring something up so that it's supported. Overall it may allude to a giant ear or a gramaphone! So, from the art therapy point of view it could be all of those things and more...
My feelings is that it is a creative, therapeutic, highly personal, healing process.
I offer soundart workshops in the same way as sound healing workshops. I have also done a few individual soundart sessions where the client receives sounds and makes art. The thing to remember is that it isn't the same as doing art therapy. At a workshop I will invite you to create art work spontaneously and in your own way. I hope that by using sound as a stimulus, that you will have some touching, inspiring, relaxing and energising experiences. Both art and sound making are deeply creative activities and through them you will find yourself opening and going through the doors inside yourself. By allowing your imagination to roam freely you will have the opportunity to connect with yourself on a deep level.
My intention is to create a safe space in which to explore aspects of yourself through art and sound; my hope is that this process will be a healing one. You do not have to be ‘good’ at either art or music to do this workshop as it is about making art that pleases you or reflects an inner process that you can relate to.
The following page which is my Photo Album has some examples of 'soundart' in it.

These two images above were inspired by doing movement and sound. The image below was from voice work.

The possibilities are endless....
